Background

The Long Beach Barracuda were one of eight original franchises in the Western Baseball League, an independent professional baseball loop that debuted in the spring of 1995 with ball clubs in California, Washington state and British Columbia. The Barracuda were the first professional team to play at the city’s Blair Field, opened in 1958, and the first team to call Long Beach home since the Long Beach Beachbombers played a season in the Southern California League in 1913.
