The Storm were an ill-fated Orange County entry in the indoor National Lacrosse League that played two winter seasons at Arrowhead Pond in 2004 and 2005. The team was dreadful in competition, posted a 1-15 record in their debut season and following that up with a 5-11 performance in 2005. The team’s woes were compounded by its murky and troubled ownership scheme and the Storm quietly disbanded in the summer of 2005.
The National Lacrosse League’s Orlando Titans were brief visitors to the Central Florida pro sports scene, managing only a single season at Amway Arena during the winter of 2010. The Titans previously spent three seasons in New York and New Jersey before shifting to Orlando in August 2009. League MVP Casey Powell and Goaltender of the Year Matt Vinc led an exciting Titans squad to the NLL semi-finals in 2010. But heavy financial losses and an unsuccessful search for new investors sunk the club after only one season in Florida.
The Albany Attack were a pro box lacrosse team that competed in the National Lacrosse League in the early 2000’s. The team was usually mediocre, finishing .500 or below in three out of four seasons. But in 2002, the Attack posted the best regular season record in the NLL at 14-2. A raucous crowd of 9,289 turned out at the Pepsi Center to see the Attack lose a 13-12 thriller to the Toronto Rock in the NLL title game.
The Columbus Landsharks were a toothless entry in the indoor National Lacrosse League, playing three seasons of box lacrosse at Nationwide Arena from 2000 to 2003. The original Landsharks franchise actually left town for Montreal shortly after its debut season, but new owners resuscitated the ‘Sharks for two more desultory seasons. The team packed off once more, this time bound for Arizona, in 2003.
