Background

The Diamond Dogs were an independent professional baseball team that played at Heritage Park in Colonie, New York from 1995 through the 2002 season. The Dogs were members of the Northeast League and later the Northern League. Both circuits were “independent” meaning that none of the league members held an affiliation with the Major League parent club.

The Diamond Dogs took up residence at Heritage Park on the heels of the departing Albany Colonie Yankees, a Class AA fam team of the New York Yankees that left Colonie in favor of a new ballpark in Norwich, Connecticut at the end of the 1994 season.
