This Old School Shirts release is strictly for the hardcore hoop heads.
Before the NBA had the G-League, it had the CBA with teams stretched from Puerto Rico to Honolulu. During the CBA’s 1980’s and 90’s heyday, the league provided a launching pad for future NBA All-Stars such as John Starks and  Michael Adams as well as coaching legends Phil Jackson and George Karl.

Background

The Wichita Falls Texans were a franchise in the Continental Basketball Association, the top developmental league of the NBA during the 1980’s and 1990’s. The Texans played at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of Midwestern State University.

1991 Title Run

The team’s finest hour came during the 1990-91 season. With the Texans on the verge of folding the previous summer, Head Coach/General Manager John Treloar helped to find new ownership for the team and then set about rebuilding the roster.

After a 32-24 regular season, the Texans shocked the George Karl-coached Albany Patroons in the playoffs. The Patroons had amassed a stunning 50-6 record, including a perfect 28-0 mark at home. But the Texans ousted the Patroons in six games in the semis and then went on to defeat the Quad City Thunder four games to three in the finals to claim the 1991 CBA title.

In the deciding game, played before a sell-out crowd of 5,045 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on April 27th, 1991, Wichita Falls’ backcourt duo of Ennis Whatley (29 points) and Derrick Taylor (24 points) keyed the Texans’ 102-90 victory. Whatley was a former NBA first round draft pick, selected #13 overall by the Kansas City Kings in 1983. With the very next pick in that ’83, the Portland Trail Blazers selected future Hall-of-Famer Clyde Drexler.

After six seasons of play, the Texans were sold and moved to Chicago, Illinois in June of 1994.
