The National Lacrosse League’s Orlando Titans were brief visitors to the Central Florida pro sports scene, managing only a single season at Amway Arena during the winter of 2010. The Titans previously spent three seasons in New York and New Jersey before shifting to Orlando in August 2009. League MVP Casey Powell and Goaltender of the Year Matt Vinc led an exciting Titans squad to the NLL semi-finals in 2010. But heavy financial losses and an unsuccessful search for new investors sunk the club after only one season in Florida.
The Orlando Miracle were a short-lived franchise during the early years of the WNBA. At the time, all WNBA clubs shared ownership and operations with a NBA franchise, so the Miracle’s logo design, team colors and mystical name were all derivative of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. After four middling seasons on the court, the Miracle moved and became the Connecticut Sun in 2003.
Superb minor league hockey team that never finished worse than 12 games over .500 or lower than 2nd place in the division in six seasons of play between 1995 and 2001. The Solar Bears won the 2001 Turner Cup as the final champions of the International Hockey League. But the IHL folded just two weeks later after 56 seasons of play, taking the Solar Bears down with it.
