Charlotte Barons

The Charlotte Barons were a dominant semi-professional football team that played two summer/fall seasons at American Legion Memorial Stadium in 1989 and 1990. Charlotte dominated the nationwide Minor League Football System in both seasons, running up a 23-2 overall record and winning the MLFS league championship in 1990. The Barons folded along with the rest of the league following the 1990 season.

Portland Buckaroos (1960-1976)

The Portland Buckaroos were a popular, powerhouse minor league hockey club of the 1960’s and early 1970’s. The club formed as a Western Hockey League expansion team in the fall of 1960, set to play in the brand new Portland Memorial Coliseum that would open its doors to the public that November. The Buckaroos were consistently terrific on the ice. In fourteen seasons of action, the Bucks suffered only one losing campaign and appeared in the Lester Patrick Cup Finals an amazing nine times.

Quebec Citadelles

The Quebec Citadelles were the top farm club of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens in the American Hockey League for three seasons from 1999 through 2002. The team played at the old Colisee de Quebec, former home of the Quebec Nordiques of the NHL and the World Hockey Association. The Citadelles moved to Hamilton, Ontario ahead of the 2002-03 AHL season.

2005 Georgia Force program from the Arena Football League

Georgia Force (2002-2008)

The original Georgia Force Arena Football League team played for seven seasons between 2002 and 2008, ping-ponging back-and-forth over the years between Philips Arena in downtown Atlanta and the suburban Arena at Gwinnett Center. Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank owned the team for its final four seasons from 2005 to 2008. The Force’s best season was in 2005, when the team appeared in the Arena Bowl XIX championship game, losing 51-48 to the Colorado Crush. The team disbanded in 2009 as part of the original Arena Football League’s bankruptcy and closure. A revived and much lower-budget edition of the Georgia Force played briefly in 2011-2012 in a re-booted version of the Arena Football League.

West Allis Spartans

The West Allis Spartans were a suburban Milwaukee semi-pro football team of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. The Spartans played in the Central States Football League and held their games at Nathan Hale High School Stadium. The team is best remembered for helping to further the football career of future NFL Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion Otis Sistrunk.
