The Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey team was a popular mainstay on the Utah pro sports scene for a quarter century. That Eagles endured despite the shocking and untimely deaths of two team owners, the collapse of two hockey leagues of which they were members, and several 11th hour rescues from financial calamity.

The Fort Worth Wings were a minor league hockey farm club of the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings from 1967 through 1973. The club played in the Central Hockey League, which covered a territory from Tennessee to New Mexico at the time. The Wings maintained a violent rivalry with the CHL’s Dallas Black Hawks, who also began play in 1967.
