Chicago Shoccers

The Chicago Shoccers were an indoor soccer team that played two seasons in the American Indoor Soccer Association between 1985 and 1987. Chicago had two pro indoor teams at the time.  The popularity of the Chicago Sting of the Major Indoor Soccer League had dipped from the team’s early 80’s peak, when they were virtually unbeatable at Chicago Stadium. But they were still in existence and vastly overshadowed the Shoccers, who were essentially a minor league club playing in second rate venues.

Louisville Thunder American Indoor Soccer Association

Louisville Thunder

The Louisville Thunder were a pro indoor soccer club that played three seasons at Broadbent Arena in the mid-1980’s.  The Thunder were one of six founding clubs in the Midwest-based American Indoor Soccer Association when the league formed in early 1984. The Thunder had a rivalry with the AISA’s Canton Invaders franchise, whom they faced in the AISA championship series in all three years of their existence.

Columbus Capitals American Indoor Soccer Association

Columbus Capitals

The Columbus Capitals were a short-lived entry in the low-budget American Indoor Soccer Association.  The league played out of minor league hockey arenas in the upper Midwest at the time. The Caps played at the Ohio Center and the Fairground Coliseum for two winter seasons from 1984 to 1986. Yugoslav-born forward Lesh Shkreli, a veteran of the American outdoor minor leagues, led the AISA in scoring during the inaugural 1984-85 season and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Kalamazoo Kangaroos

The Kalamazoo Kangaroos were a minor league indoor soccer club that played for two season in the small, Midwest-based American Indoor Soccer Association from 1984-1986.  Kalamazoo was one of six founding cities in the league.  During the winter months, the ‘Roos shared Wings Stadium with the Kalamazoo Wings of the International Hockey League.
