Red Springs Twins

The tiny town of Red Springs, North Carolina hosted this Class A farm team of the Minnesota Twins during the summer of 1969. Red Springs (pop. 3,383 in the 1970 Census) was the smallest community in the United States to host its own pro baseball team that summer. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Red Springs lasted just that one season in the Carolina League, earning a place in our One-Year Wonders file.

Toronto ThunderHawks

The Toronto ThunderHawks were an indoor soccer team that played for a single season at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga during the winter of 2000-01. The ThunderHawks marked the second of two unsuccessful attempts by the National Professional Soccer League to establish a club in Toronto. They followed in the footsteps of the Toronto Shooting Stars who played at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto proper during the winter of 1996-97.
