The Las Vegas Seagulls were a 2nd Division pro soccer club that lasted just one season in the American Soccer League in the summer of 1979. The Seagulls lost their final 11 games to finish in last place in the ASL’s Western Conference with a 7-18-3 record.
Sin City’s entry in the often derided XFL of 2001 produced two of the league’s success stories, helping to launch long NFL careers for two of its players: wide receiver Mike Furrey and running back Rod Smart. Smart was also responsible for one of the XFL’s enduring images – his uniform name plate that read “He Hate Me” and received lots of camera attention during the XFL’s debut NBC national television broadcast in February 2001. The Outlaws and the XFL folded after one season of play in May 2001.
