Atlanta Beat (2010-2011)
Atlanta Beat of 2010-2011 were a short-lived brand revival of the original Atlanta Beat of the Women’s United Soccer Association (2001-2003). While the WUSA Beat played in downtown Atlanta, the latter day Beat helped to build a splendid new soccer specific stadium in the suburbs, in partnership with Kennesaw State University. Despite the beautiful new field and a 2010 spending spree that saw the team acquire U.S. National Team stars Tobin Heath and Hope Solo along with top British international Eniola Aluko, the Beat struggled on the field and never found a strong audience. The team disbanded along with the rest of the Women’s Professional Soccer League following the 2011 season.
