During the late 1980’s, Tulsa had a championship minor league basketball team known as the Fast Breakers, named for the chain of convenient stores operated by the team’s owner. When the team was sold in 1991, the new owners changed the name and logo to this Twilight Zone-inspired double entendre. Ironically, the zone defense was illegal in the Continental Basketball Association.

The Amarillo Dillas were an independent minor league baseball club that toughed it out for 16 seasons in a series of ramshackle indy leagues. After the original version of the ball club went out of business at the end of the 2004 season, a new version of the Dillas began play in 2006 and continued until 2010.
