The Bayou Bullfrogs were an independent professional baseball team that played for three seasons in Lafayette, Louisiana from 1998 to 2000. The Bullfrogs played at Tigue Moore Field, home of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball program. The club competed in the Texas-Louisiana League, a centrally-owned and operated independent circuit founded in 1994.
The Louisville IceHawks were a minor league hockey outfit that played during the early years of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The IceHawks, formed in 1990, were Louisville’s first pro hockey entry since the Rebels of the International Hockey League left town in 1960.
There are thousands of teams on Fun While It Lasted, but only one – that we know of – named in tribute to former Doors lead singer Jim Morrison. That would be the now-defunct Jacksonville Lizards Kings of the East Coast Hockey League.
The Fargo-Moorhead Fever were a well-traveled Continental Basketball Association franchise that stopped for two seasons at the Fargodome in North Dakota. The Fever also claimed neighboring Moorhead, Minnesota as a host community. Several former NBA 1st round picks suited up for the Fever including Roy Marble (#23 overall, Atlanta Hawks, 1989), Bernard Thompson (#19 overall, Portland Trailblazers, 1984) and Leon Wood (#10 overall, Philadelphia 76ers, 1984).
