The Las Vegas Stars were the Class AAA top farm club of the San Diego Padres for 18 seasons between 1983 and 2000. When the Pacific Coast League’s Spokane Indians relocated to Las Vegas in late 1982, it marked the return of pro baseball to the city for the first time since 1958. The Padres had a rich farm system during the 1980’s, with future Major League standouts such as John Kruk, Kevin McReynolds and Roberto & Sandy Alomar coming up through Las Vegas. The Stars won PCL titles in 1986 and 1988. The 1990’s were a leaner ersa and the team refreshed its image with a space alien-themed re-brand in 2001, becoming the Las Vegas 51s that summer.
