Cleveland Barons (2001-2006)
The 2001-2006 Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League (AHL) represented the second revival of the classic “Barons” hockey brand in Cleveland. The original Barons played in the AHL from 1937 to 1973, followed by the doomed NHL edition of the Barons that lasted just two seasons from 1976 to 1978. These latter days Barons served as the top farm team of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks and played to small crowds at Gund Arena from 2001 until 2006. The franchise moved to Worcester, Massachusetts ahead of the 2006-07 AHL season.
