Harrisburg Heat (1991-2003)

The Harrisburg Heat were an indoor soccer franchise in central Pennsylvania that played from 1991 until 2003. During the Heat’s late 1990’s heyday, the team attracted crowds in excess of 5,000 per match at Farm Show Arena. The team’s finest season came in 1994-95.  Harrisburg advanced to the 1995 National Professional Soccer League Championship Series, where they were swept in four games by the St. Louis Ambush.

Kansas City Attack

The Attack, who patrolled Kemper Arena (and briefly Municipal Auditorium) from 1991 to 2001, never recaptured the wild popularity enjoyed by Kansas City’s previous indoor soccer team, the Comets. At the peak of Comets mania during the mid-1980’s, the team routinely packed Kemper Arena and helped drive the NBA’s less popular Kings out of town. The Attack could never claim such influence, but they did ultimately last just as long as the Comets (10 seasons) and they accomplished something the Comets never could: winning a league championship (twice, in fact).

1990 Illinois Thunder program from the National Professional Soccer League

Illinois Thunder

The Illinois Thunder were a short-lived, sparsely attended indoor soccer promotion based at the Rockford MetroCentre for two seasons from 1990 to 1992. The Thunder shared the MetroCentre during the winter months with the more popular Rockford Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association.
