Sacramento Attack

The Sacramento Attack were a hastily assembled Arena Football League squad that lasted just a single season in the California state capital during the summer of 1992. In fact, the Attack hosted just five games at ARCO Arena during their brief existence. The team was operated by the management of the Sacramento Kings NBA team under a lease agreement with the Arena Football League. Following the 1992 season, the Kings declined to renew their lease with Arena Football and the Attack faded quietly into the pro sports graveyard.

Buffalo Destroyers Arena Football League

Buffalo Destroyers

A relatively undistinguished entry in the Arena Football League during the early 2000’s.  The Buffalo Destroyers played five seasons in the league but never posted a winning record.  In fact, the franchise lost 17 of its first 18 games across two seasons in 1999 and 2000. The Destroyers’ best known player was quarterback Browning Nagle, a 6-year NFL veteran and the 2nd round draft choice of the New York Jets in 1991.

Colorado Crush

The Colorado Crush were Denver’s entry in the Arena Football League for six seasons between 2003 and 2008. This was Denver’s second go round with the Arena League, following the earlier Denver Dynamite that played at McNichols Arena between 1987 and 1991. The Crush played at Pepsi Arena, the city’s NBA/NHL palace that had replaced McNichols in 1999, and were owned by a trio of local sports titans: Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, and Nuggets/Avalanche owner Stan Kroenke. The Crush’s finest hour came at the end of the 2005 season, when they defeated the Georgia Force 51-48 in Arena Bowl XIX.

New Jersey Gladiators

The New Jersey Gladiators were an Arena Football League promotion that competed for two poorly attended seasons at the old Continental Airlines Arena in the Meadowlands in 2001 and 2002. The franchise was previously known as the Red Dogs from 1997 thru 2000, named thru a sponsorship with the briefly popular beer brand of the late 1990’s.
