Background
The Fresno Frenzy were a One-Year Wonder in the small market indoor football league known as Arena Football 2. The Frenzy were an expansion team during AF2’s third season of play in 2002. They joined the 34-franchise league’s West Division, which also included teams in Bakersfield, Hawaii and San Diego.
The Frenzy were owned by 27-year Casey Wasserman, grandson of legendary Hollywood studio mogul Lew Wasserman. The younger Wasserman also owned the Los Angeles Avengers of the major market Arena Football League, a team he purchased for $5 million as a 24-year old in 1998.

af2, also branded as arenafootball2 was a minor league indoor football circuit established by the Arena Football League (AFL) in 1999. It began play in 2000. After the AFL went out of business, the af2 owners got together, bought the AFL branding in a bankruptcy settlement, and relaunched as the “new” Arena Football League in 2010.

The Frenzy finished last in AF2’s West Division with a 4-12 record in 2002. The team, coached by former Fresno State quarterback Rick Worman, was alright at home (4-4), but lost all eight of its road games. The team folded at the end of the season.

After a one-year absence, Arena Football 2 returned to Selland Arena in 2004 with the arrival of the Central Valley Coyotes. The Coyotes played six seasons and then closed their doors alongside the rest of Arena Football 2 after the 2009 season.
