Tampa Bay Mutiny
The Tampa Bay Mutiny were one of the ten founding franchises of Major League Soccer in the spring of 1996. Tampa had been a stronghold of the old North American Soccer League during the late 1970’s and early 80’s with the popular Rowdies club. But the Mutiny, despite a stellar debut season in 1996, were never able to establish a foothold. Chief among numerous on-field and front office troubles, the league-owned Mutiny never had an investor-operator during their six seasons of play, ultimately leading to the team’s closure in early 2002.
