Reno Silver Sox (1947-1951)
There have been four different versions of the Silver Sox baseball team in Reno since World War II. Today we will take a look at the original Silver Sox club, formed as a Class C farm club of the New York Giants in 1947. The team played three seasons in the Sunset League, winning a league title in 1948, and then two more of the Class D Far West League in 1950 and 1951. The closure of the Far West League in January 1952 left the Silver Sox with no place to play and Reno went without professional baseball until the formation of the second Silver Sox franchise in the California League in 1955.
