The New England Sharks were an obscure 2nd Division American Soccer League (1933-1983) club that folded midway through their only season of existence in the summer of 1981.  The Sharks started out in New Bedford, Massachusetts but moved to Pawtucket, Rhode Island in July 1981 in a cost-saving effort.

Rhode Island Oceaneers / New England Oceaneers

The Oceaneers were a Providence-based 2nd division soccer club of the 1970’s. The team was notable for helping to launch the pro careers of two noteworthy American goalkeepers. Rookie Arnie Mausser, star of the 1974 Oceaneers side, soon jumped to the 1st division and went on to a long career in the NASL. His replacement, Tony DiCicco, became a World Cup and Olympic champion coach in the women’s game.
