Houston Colt .45s (1962-1964)
Houston’s dreams of landing a Major League Baseball team go back at least as far as the 1950s and the effort to relocate the St. Louis Cardinals to Texas. In 1960, to thwart a planned third major league called the Continental League, the National League awarded expansion franchises to Houston and New York City. Houston’s team was nicknamed the Colt .45s, but changed their name to Astros before moving into their then new, state-of-the-art stadium, the Astrodome.
