Background
The Gulf States League existed for one season during the summer of 1976. The league was classified as Class A by National Association President Bobby Bragan, but operated as an independent league and none of the six member clubs had an affiliation with a Major League parent club.
Following the 1976 season, the league re-organized as a Texas-only league and changed its name to the Lone Star League. The Lone Star League lasted one final season and then folded after the summer of 1977.

I remember going out to Cabiness Field to watch the Corpus Christi Seagulls. I recall watching lead off man Mike Krizmanich tear the cover off the ball hitting at a .386 clip for the season. Jim Capehart, Mark Sinovich and Jim Rainy were a few other names I watched roaming the diamond at Cabiness.
