Bakersfield, California was a mainstay of the Class A California League for 75 years, missing only four seasons that the league played between 1941 and 2016. The Blaze were the last of Bakersfield’s Cal League ball clubs, playing at Sam Lynn Park for 22 summers between 1995 and 2016.

Bakersfield Outlaws

The Bakersfield Outlaws were a short-lived Class A minor league baseball team in the California League. The Outlaws played two last place seasons operating as an independent club, without a Major League parent organization to provide players and share costs. Nevertheless, the Outlaws had a success story in Onix Concepcion. The 21-year old infielder spent the entire 1979 season in Bakersfield before breaking into the Majors the following year. He would go on start at shortstop for the Kansas City Royals during their 1985 World Series championship season.

Bakersfield Dodgers (1968-1975)

The original Bakersfield Dodgers were a Class A farm club of the L.A. Dodgers from 1968 to 1975. The Dodgers replaced the Bakersfield Bears (1957-1967) in the California League membership in 1968. Future Major League stars who came up through Bakersfield’ during the Dodgers era included Ron Cey, Jeff Leonard, Rick Sutcliffe and Steve Yeager.
