Winnipeg Cyclone

The Winnipeg Cyclone were a minor league basketball squad that played in the International Basketball Association between 1995 and 2001. The Cyclone replaced the similarly named Winnipeg Thunder on the local basketball scene. While the more ambitious Thunder played at 12,000 seat Winnipeg Arena, the lower-budget Cyclone used the Winnipeg Convention Centre whose 2,600-odd seats were still more than the Cyclone required. Notable Cyclones included former NBA dunk maestro Darryl Dawkins, who coached the team, and former Hoop Dreams subject Arthur Agee.

The Winnipeg Thunder were a minor league basketball team that played fitfully for parts of three summers at Winnipeg Arena in the early 1990’s. The team had the misfortune to play in not one but two ramshackle leagues that went out of business in the middle of season. As a result, the Thunder managed to complete just one of the three seasons they embarked upon.
