Scottish Claymores

The Scottish Claymores were a franchise in the NFL’s Europe-based World League developmental league. (The league later changed its named to NFL Europe). Originally based at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, the Claymores began playing games at Glasgow’s Hampden Park in 1998. By the 2000’s the team shifted operations almost entirely to Glasgow. The Claymores hosted World Bowl ’96 at Murrayfield Stadium against the Frankfurt Galaxy. 38,982 fans showed up and watched the Claymores prevail 32-27 to claim their lone World Bowl title. The team ceased operations after 10 seasons in October 2004.
