Indiana Loves

The Indiana Loves were a four-year member of Billie Jean King’s kooky, colorful World Team Tennis experiment during the mid-1970’s.  The franchise started out as the Detroit Loves in WTT’s inaugural season of 1974,.  At the end of the season, the original owners sold out to Indianapolis businessman and tennis aficionado William Bereman, who kept the Loves name and moved the club to Indianapolis’ Market Square Arena for the 1975 campaign. The Loves top star was the young Lithuanian-American tennis phenom Vitas Gerulaitis, who played for the team in 1977 and 1978. The Loves folded along with the rest of the league at the end of the 1978 season.

Chicago Aces World Team Tennis 1982

Chicago Aces (1982)

This edition of the Chicago Aces was a short-lived entry in World Team Tennis during the summer of 1982.  The team was a brand re-boot of an earlier Chicago Aces team that competed in the very first season of World Team Tennis back in 1974. Aces owner Larry King was (at the time) the husband of tennis superstar and WTT co-founder Billie Jean King. The team would ultimately play only a single month under the ‘Aces’ name.

Hartford FoxForce

The Hartford FoxForce were members of Billie Jean King’s summer time World Team Tennis promotion for seven summers between 2000 and 2006. WTT clubs often had appearance deals with one or two big name stars each summer who generated much of the team’s ticket sales heat. Notable names to suit up for the FoxForce over the years included Boris Becker, James Blake and Monica Seles. The FoxForce held their matches initially at the Hartford State Armory and later in an arena at the Blue Fox Run Golf Course.
