The Totems' origins date back to1944 when they played under various names until 1958. The organization was very successful, playing in both the WHL and CHL and winning three championships. In 1974 a major league franchise was awarded to Seattle and the ownership group bought shares of the Totems who were operating as a minor league farm club. When the deal to join the big league fell through the Totems went bankrupt.
