The Madison Muskies enjoyed a twelve-season run in Wisconsin’s capital city, serving as a Class A farm team of the Oakland Athletics from 1982 until 1993. The Muskies helped launch the career of future Oakland Stars Jose Canseco, Terry Steinbach and Walt Weiss. The franchise moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1994 and become the West Michigan Whitecaps, who are still active today.

Madison Black Wolf

The Madison Black Wolf were the last professional baseball team to make their home in Wisconsin’s capital city. The Black Wolf played at Warner Park and were members of the Northern League for five seasons between 1996 and 2000. The Northern League was an independent circuit whose clubs held no affiliations with Major League Baseball organizations. The team struggled both competitively and at the box office before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska under new ownership in 2001.

Madison Hatters

The Madison Muskies were the last Major League-affiliated minor league baseball team that make their home in Wisconsin’s capital city. The Hatters replaced the departing Madison Muskies of the Class A Midwest League after that franchise left town in late 1993. The Hatters, who served as a farm club of the St. Louis Cardinals, would play only one season in Madison during the summer of 1994 before leaving town themselves. The Hatters moved to Battle Creek, Michigan and became the Michigan Battle Cats in 1995.
