Calgary Rad’z

The Calgary Rad’z were one of twelve original franchises in Roller Hockey International (RHI) during the summer of 1993. RHI was an effort to convert the recreational craze for in-line skating (AKA “roller blading”) during the early 1990’s into support for a fully professional team sport. The Rad’z, founded by Calgary Stampeders owner Larry Ryckman, lasted two seasons at the Saddledome and the Max Bell Center.

Calgary 88’s

The Calgary 88’s were a minor league hoops team that competed in all five seasons of the short-lived World Basketball League (1988-1992). The WBL was restricted to player 6′ 5″ and under and featured an odd geographic mix of teams scattered from southern Florida to Western Canada. The team derived its name from the 1988 Winter Olympic games that took place in Calgary.
