Nashville Knights

The Knights were Nashville’s minor league hockey team for seven winters from 1989 to 1996.  The Knights were members of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), a circuit generally considered two rungs below the NHL. The team played at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium and was co-founded by former pro wrestler Ron Fuller, AKA The Tennessee Stud.

Nashville Stars World Basketball League

The Nashville Stars were a blink-and-you-missed ’em entry in the quirky World Basketball League, a far flung minor league loop designed for players under 6′ 5″ tall.  In the WBL, everyone was “short”, fast-paced guard play dominated, nobody posted up and zone defense was legal. When anyone bothered to play defense, that is. Eventually, the WBL collapsed in financial scandal in the middle of its fifth season. But by then the Nashville Stars had come and gone.
