Quad City Angels (1985-1991)

The second edition of the Quad City Angels minor league baseball team played in the Illinois-Iowa border community from 1985 to 1991. The franchise fell on hard times in the mid-1980’s, including setting a Midwest League record for most losses in a season (91) in 1987. The ball club rebounded mightily in the late 80’s and early 90’s under new owner Rick Holtzman, winning the Midwest League crown in 1990 and setting new attendance records. The team changed its name to the Quad City River Bandits in 1992.

The Swing of the Quad Cities

Short-lived but ambitious re-branding of the Midwest League’s Quad City River Bandits franchise, timed to coincide with a major renovation of John O’Donnell Stadium ahead of the 2004 season. However, when the ball club changed hands in 2007, the new owners opened a fan vote to re-assess the future name of the team. 14,000 voters delivered a landslide victory for a return to the “River Bandits” name, while the option to remain as the Swing of the Quad Cities earned just 6% of the reported votes.

Quad City Angels (1962-1978)

The original Quad City Angels were a long-time Class A farm club of the California Angels based in Davenport, Iowa.  This first version of the Q-C Angels played 17 seasons from 1962 until 1978. After a six-season intermission as the Quad City Cubs from 1979 to 1984, the Angels came back for a return engagement in the Quad Cities from 1985 through 1991.
