FC Seattle / Seattle Storm

FC Seattle was a semi-pro (and later professional) soccer club that formed in 1983 following the financial implosion and closure of the popular Seattle Sounders of the North American Soccer League (NASL). The club was originally known simply as Football Club (“FC”) Seattle in 1984 and 1985. By 1985, the fledgling club was arguably the best American outdoor soccer team left standing following the demise of the NASL earlier that year. The Storm would soon join the Western Soccer Alliance and win the championship of that regional league in 1988. The club disbanded following the 1990 season.

Seattle Sounders North American Soccer League

Seattle Sounders (1974-1983)

The original Seattle Sounders of the North American Soccer League were a popular, British-influenced club active for 10 seasons between 1974 and 1983.  The Sounders twice played for the NASL’s Soccer Bowl championship but were foiled by the New York Cosmos in 1977 and again in 1982. Founded in 1974, the Sounders closed their doors in 1983.

The Seattle Rangers were a three-year entry in the Continental Football League (1965-1969), a sprawling late ’60’s attempt at creating a “triple-A” level of professional football, a cut below the NFL and the AFL.  The Rangers were the highest level of pro football played in the state of Washington until the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks arrived in 1977.
